Growing and producing food really connects us back to the earth - it feels good as does eating the results of that labour.

It just KILLS ME that "dieticians" and "nutritionists" always recommend a diet that includes beans and grains for weight loss, because they think those foods are the only way to get carbs and fiber--you'd think they'd never heard of things like vegetables, fruits, coconut, or even avocado!

All they'll ever know is what they learned way back in school, which is the low-fat/high-carb method. They were never taught things like total antioxidant loads, ORAC values, or even how to hone down the shopping list to do the same job with less foods--they just keep turning to the same old recommendations, and look at our population! Remember: fat BAAAAAAAD, just like it was during WWII and rationing (where it came from). Fats, meats, and sweets were rationed to the citizens, while the rest went to our soldiers--we were left to fend on high-carb/high-starch foods, so that's what our government subsidized to make cheap for us. It hasn't stopped. The skyrocketing commodities market merely slowed it down, but as soon as THAT stops, the subsidies will come roaring back with a vengeance, and so will $.50/lb. dry pasta.

I think Primal Toad is more of a nutritionist than these CW dieticians and nutritionists, and I'd rather listen to him. How many nutritionists, or weight-loss and/or frugal experts can whittle your entire food realm down to 4 foods, yet maintain all the necessary nutrients? What's even better: these foods are FOOD STAMP-FRIENDLY, so anybody can afford them!

No more excuses.

You want cheap GREEN carbs? Guess what--food stamps pays for that too, by outright purchase, or by gardening, because food stamps cover produce and garden seeds. Sure, you may have to do a little work, and even get dirty doing it, but again, no excuses.
