paleo resources

A while back I wrote an article on the top 20 paleo blogs, then I updated it a few weeks later. Rather than keep updating it and reposting it, I’ve moved that post here to its own page as the start point for a UK resource base for all things paleo.

top 20 paleo blogs (updated!)

Last modified on 2011-02-24 07:56:02 GMT. 3 comments. Top.

paleo cave 300x225 paleo resourcesA couple of months I publised this list for the first time and a lot of you liked it.  I’ve updated the list now as a few of you have pointed out that not all the contenders were paleo.  So I’ve updated it and removed those that are not really in the paleo zone and I’ll update the list from time to time to keep it fresh.  And it will still have those who are as much into the movement side of things as the nutritional, so MovNat stays at number 1!

The list that follows is a comprehensive list of movers and shakers in the paleo-primal area that between them answer all these questions and more.

1. MovNat

erwan movnat paleo resourcesErwan le Corre is the founder of MovNat a system of natural movement that emulates our ancestral physical habits. Erwan is a phenomenal athlete and is sharing his approach to fitness through his blog, DVDs and training courses. Have a look at some of the videos to get an idea of the awesome health this way of movement can create. Erwan is an advocate too of paleo eating.

2. Robb Wolf

robbwolf 150x150 paleo resourcesAuthor of The Paleo Solution, Robb is a former research biochemist, has studied under Professor Loren Cordain (see number 7 on this list) and is co-owner of NorCal one on Men’s Health’s top 30 gyms in the USA. His blog rich with video has lots of science behind the diet and it’s presented in a friendly way. A goldmine of information

3. Paleo Diet

This single page website is loaded with information and links – it’s a compendium resource and is updated. Not really a blog it is still a vital resource tool and has been around for more than ten years.

4. Hunter Gatherer

Durant photo 150x150 paleo resourcesManhattan based John Durant blogs about paleo living and barefoot running. He looks at life from an ancestral viewpoint and coordinates activities in the New York area.

5. Arthur De Vany’s Evolutionary Fitness

artdevaney 150x150 paleo resourcesAt 72, Art and his wife “WW” are living proof of the health benefits of living a paleo lifestyle. He writes about Evolutionary Fitness the first integrated model of paleo living and eating. A scientist and athlete, he has been living this way for more than 25 years.

6. Nell Stephenson

nell 150x150 paleo resourcesCo-author of the The Paleo Diet Cookbook with Dr Loren Cordain, Nell is an elite Ironman Triathlete and ultra-marathon runner.  Based in LA, Nell is also a nutritional adviser and personal trainer  and has been blogging on Paleo for 3 years. Nell will be a panellist at next year’s Ancestral Symposium. Very much a person who runs the talk.

7. The Paleo Diet

Loren Cordain 150x150 paleo resourcesThis is the site of Professor Loren Cordain, author of The Paleo Diet. Loren Cordain is a leading, if not the leading scientist in Paleolithic diets. His website is an excellent resource.

8. Primal Toad

primaltoad 150x150 paleo resourcesThis site tells the story of “Toad” Dosenberry who is living The Primal Blueprint and sharing his progress via the blog. Fun to read and informative this is less about science and more about just getting the paleo lifestyle rocking along and seeing the benefits.

9. Neanderthin

ray neanderthin 150x150 paleo resourcesNeanderthin promotes a book of the same name, written by Ray Audette about the reasons why a paleo diet is the only one suitable for humans. He highlights the health benefits such as overcoming autoimmune dysfunctions such as rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes as well as weight loss and improved energy levels.

10. Hunter Gather Cook

huntergathercook nickweston paleo resourcesIs a practical and interesting site by Nick Weston who blogs about his life which he lives as a modern day hunter-gatherer. He lives simply, hunts food and shares recipes and tips for foraging living the lifestyle. Real nuts and bolts stuff that helps you realize that the whole lifestyle is possible in the 21st century, beyond just the diet.

11.Karate Conditioning

As it suggests from the title, Karate Conditioning by Joe Berne is a Paleo and Martial Arts blog.  But the emphasis is on using modern methods and knowledge hand in hand with the voice of tradition.  So you’ll find paleo eating, dynamic stretching, kettlebells, intermittent fasting and going barefoot here too.

12. The Lean Saloon

johnny leansaloon 150x150 paleo resourcesJohnny is a fan of intermittent fasting and eats a mostly paleo diet. What’s important here is that whatever it is he does clearly works, as the photos will show. My girlfriend was more interested in the photos than the theory! Anyway Johnny only works out 3 times per week, but moves around a lot and eats in a unique way: his first meal is at 4pm, his second (and last) and 9pm. The site is small but interesting and a motivator to show what is possible.

13. Modern Paleo

dianahsieh mp 150x150 paleo resourcesWritten by Dr Diana Hsieh, Modern Paleo offers writing by a range of Objectivists on the principles of diet and exercise that are most conducive to “human flourishing”. For a full explanation of Objectivism read this.

14. Running Barefoot

Harvard Skeletal Biology 150x150 paleo resourcesThis site, not really a blog, reports on the output of Harvard’s Skeletal Biology Lab and looks at the difference to the body when running in shoes compared with running barefoot.

15. Hunt Gather Love

melissa huntgatherlove 150x150 paleo resourcesThis site, run by Melissa McEwen tells of her adoption of the paleo diet to improve her own health. Based in New York she also coordinates a paleo-eating group. And proof that not all paleo dieters are male meatheads.

16. The Blog of Michael R. Eades

mikeBlogPic 150x150 paleo resourcesAuthor of Protein Power and “the 6 week cure for the middle-aged middle”, Dr Eades and wife Dr Mary Eades are well known writers on what is basically paleo nutrition.

17. Uncommon Wellness

Travis Schefcik 150x150 paleo resources

Written by Travis Schefcik, this blog is about Paleo eating and Crossfit.  Travis started the blog because as he says “wellness just isn’t common anymore.”  It’s  great blog about an ex-serviceman and martial artist finding his way to better health and wanting to share it.

18. Chris McDougall

chrismcd 202x300 paleo resourcesAuthor of Born to Run and advocate of barefoot running.  Chris is a writer and a blogger and returned to running after a long absence.  Running is a passion more so than competing in races.  He restarted running having been told for years by doctors that he needed stability shoes and orthotics.  Now he runs barefoot perfectly.

19. Tovar Cerulli – A Mindful Carnivore

Tovar Cerulli paleo resourcesThis fascinating site tells the story of a vegan turner hunter. Non-meat eating for ten years, and passionate about the environment, Tovar is interested in human relationships with the natural world that he studies and writes about.

20. newhabit – wellness for life

This website!

I am sure there are many other great websites out there, and many will be referred to within the blogs and websites listed above. I hope at least that for those of you just starting on the paleo living journey, that this is a good start point for you.

If you think there are any glaring omissions or you just want to add your favorites, please post links to them in the comments section. Happy hunting and gathering!
